Prof. Torsten Frosch, coordinator of the LOEWE focus area “MultiDrug-TDM”, explains how a novel intelligent sensor system can significantly improve the treatment of children with cancer. The system has been developed since early 2026 by researchers from TU Darmstadt and Goethe University Frankfurt as part of the project “Personalized medical technology for therapeutic drug monitoring at the point of care in pediatric oncology – MultiDrug-TDM”. In an interview, Frosch explains how the idea for the project originated, why researchers from different disciplines first had to develop a common language, and what role the Rhine-Main Universities alliance plays in this context.
