But if you want to actively compare countries yourself and relate case and death figures across countries, you can now get a quick overview with just a few clicks \u2013 and gain surprising insights in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new web service \u201cGoethe Interactive Covid-19 Analyzer\u201c which Fabian Schubert in the working group for the theory of complex systems at the Institute for Theoretical Physics developed alongside his dissertation is simple to use: go to the \u201cGoethe Interactive Covid-19 Analyzer\u201d website, click on the countries and number of cases in questions, and drag the curves over each other. Congruent? The answer is immediately visible. In the same way \u2013 depending on the individual question &#8211; the daily number of cases or deaths, or the total number of infected or deceased individuals can be compared. The underlying data for countries from \u201cA\u201d as in Afghanistan through \u201cZ\u201d as in Zimbabwe is provided by the known covid-19 databases of the &#8222;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"European Centre for Disease Control (\u00f6ffnet in einem neuem Tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecdc.europa.eu\/en\/publications-data\/download-todays-data-geographic-distribution-covid-19-cases-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\">European Centre for Disease Control<\/a>\u201d and the \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/CSSEGISandData\/COVID-19\" target=\"_blank\">Johns Hopkins Center For Systems Science and Engineering<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur interactive tool allows researchers,\njournalists and other interested parties to quickly gain an overview of\noutbreak developments,\u201d explains Professor Claudius Gros, who studies the modelling\nof covid-19 outbreaks himself at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, and who\nas Schubert\u2019s doctoral advisor encouraged him to develop the service tool.\nThose who use the tool may also discover relationships that provide inspiration\nfor additional research on epidemic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gros, for example, was surprised that the\nscaled trajectory curves of the case numbers from Germany and Spain \u201care almost\nidentical, although the two countries pursued significantly different lockdown\nmeasures.\u201d There are also interesting clues regarding the unexplained issue of\nthe number of unrecorded cases of corona infections. For Italy, the scaled\ncurve of covid-19 infections corresponds to the curve of corona deaths if the\ndaily case numbers are applied to the total numbers of the sick or the\ndeceased. \u201cThis indicates that the unrecorded case numbers may not have changed\nsignificantly over the course of the outbreak \u2013 even though testing increased.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cGoethe Interactive Covid-19 Analyzer\u201d\nfrom the Institute for Theoretical Physics offers numerous options for combining\ndata per mouse click. \u201cThe page has only been live for a couple of days,\u201d&nbsp; says Gros. It therefore remains to be seen\nhow many researchers and other interested parties will use the new analytical\ntool. The first scientists have already indicated interest, however. And the theoretical\nphysicist is certain: \u201cThe website is certainly useful for the final papers and\ndoctoral dissertations on covid-19 that will soon be written.
