Um diese Frage zu beantworten, m\u00fcssen die biochemischen Prozesse sehr genau betrachtet werden. Dr. Christian M\u00fcnch, Biochemiker an der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t, hat mit seinem Team eine Methode entwickelt, um diese Prozesse simultan und mit hoher zeitlicher Aufl\u00f6sung zu messen. Der Nachwuchswissenschaftler wird nun mit dem Otto-Meyerhof-Preis ausgezeichnet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will man mehr \u00fcber die biochemischen Prozesse bei zellul\u00e4ren St\u00f6rungen und Erkrankungen wissen, muss man beobachten, wie sich die Proteine in der Zelle ver\u00e4ndern. Das Instrumentarium hierf\u00fcr hat Dr. Christian M\u00fcnch, Gruppenleiter am Institut f\u00fcr Biochemie II &nbsp;Goethe-Universit\u00e4t, zusammen mit seinem Team entwickelt: eine Methode, mit deren Hilfe die besonders dynamische Proteinsynthese analysiert werden kann. Tausende Proteine k\u00f6nnen damit simultan gemessen und kleinste quantitative Ver\u00e4nderungen ihrer Synthese erfasst werden, bei gleichzeitig hoher Zeitaufl\u00f6sung. Auf diese Weise konnten die Auswirkungen von zellul\u00e4rem Stress auf die Proteinsynthese ebenso beschrieben werden wie die Zellver\u00e4nderungen nach Infektion mit SARS-CoV-2. Dabei wurden auch zellul\u00e4re Schnittstellen mit therapeutischem Potential aufgedeckt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christian M\u00fcnch hat an der Eberhard Karls-Universit\u00e4t T\u00fcbingen Biochemie studiert und wurde bei Prof. Anne Bertolotti am MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology und der University of Cambridge (Cambridge, Gro\u00dfbritannien) promoviert. Die Arbeit wurde mit dem Postgraduiertenpreis der British Neuroscience Association ausgezeichnet. Anschlie\u00dfend befasste sich M\u00fcnch an der Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) mit der mitochondrialen Reaktion auf Proteinfehlfaltungen. Er entwickelte Modelle zur umfassenden und mechanistischen Untersuchung der mitochondrialen Unfolded-Protein-Response (mtUPR) in S\u00e4ugetierzellen und konnte dadurch wichtige Aspekte dieses essentiellen Prozesses entdecken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2016 gr\u00fcndete Christian M\u00fcnch eine unabh\u00e4ngige Forschungsgruppe am Institut f\u00fcr Biochemie II der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t zur Untersuchung der zellul\u00e4ren Reaktionen auf Stressbedingungen, welche in Erkrankungen oder w\u00e4hrend eines Infekts auftreten. Hierf\u00fcr setzt M\u00fcnch modernste massenspektrometrische Methoden ein und entwickelt diese weiter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Christian M\u00fcnch erh\u00e4lt den Otto-Meyerhof-Preis der Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Biochemie und Molekularbiologie e.V. (GBM) im Rahmen einer virtuellen Veranstaltung am Donnerstag, 16. September. Der Titel seines Preisvortrages lautet \u201eDynamic protein synthesis changes in stress and disease\u201d. Das Preisgeld stiftet, wie bereits in den Vorjahren, das Unternehmen Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der mit 5.000 Euro dotierte Preis w\u00fcrdigt herausragende Nachwuchskr\u00e4fte in der Wissenschaft im Alter von bis zu 40 Jahren.
