Die Gastprofessur wurde der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t im Jahr 2014 vom Bankhaus Metzler und der Edmond de Rothschild Gruppe aus Anlass des 100-j\u00e4hrigen Jubil\u00e4ums der Universit\u00e4t gestiftet.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Fohlin verbindet in ihrer Forschung historische Analysen mit aktuellen Methoden der Finanz\u00f6konomie und widmet sich dabei heutigen wirtschaftspolitischen Fragestellungen. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte sind etwa die langfristige Entwicklung von Finanzm\u00e4rkten, \u2011institutionen und -systemen sowie die Frage, wie sich die Organisation von Finanzinstituten auf deren Leistung sowie auf Faktoren wie das wirtschaftliche Wachstum auswirkt. Auch das deutsche Finanzsystem ist Gegenstand ihrer Forschung. So hat sie beispielsweise auf Basis neuer Datensammlungen nachgewiesen, dass die Aktienm\u00e4rkte in Deutschland vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg eine viel bedeutendere und erfolgreichere Rolle gespielt haben als bisher angenommen und dass sich die Verflechtung von F\u00fchrungsgremien in Banken und Unternehmen erst sp\u00e4t entwickelt und die Unternehmensergebnisse nicht wesentlich beeinflusst hat. Zuletzt hat sie sich mit der Entwicklung des New York Stock Exchange vor der gro\u00dfen Depression besch\u00e4ftigt.<\/p>\n<p>Fohlin hat von 2005 bis 2015 an der Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, gelehrt und davor am California Institute of Technology. 1994 hat sie ihren Ph.D. in Economics an der University of California in Berkeley erworben.<\/p>\n<p>W\u00e4hrend ihres Aufenthalts an der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t im Sommersemester 2016 wird Caroline Fohlin im Ph.D.-Programm der universit\u00e4ren Graduiertenschule GSEFM im House of Finance unterrichten. Dar\u00fcber hinaus wird am 17. Juni 2016 im Rahmen der Gastprofessur eine internationale Forschungskonferenz zum Thema vergleichende Finanzsystemgeschichte stattfinden.<\/p>\n<p>Die Stiftungsgastprofessur f\u00fcr Finanzgeschichte wird in diesem Jahr zum zweiten Mal besetzt. Im Rahmen der Gastprofessur werden ausgewiesene Experten der bank- und finanzhistorischen Forschung aus dem In- und Ausland eingeladen, Wissenschaftlern, Studierenden und der interessierten \u00d6ffentlichkeit in Frankfurt Einblicke in ihre Forschungsinhalte und -methoden zu geben. Kooperationspartner sind das LOEWE-Zentrum SAFE im House of Finance und das Institut f\u00fcr bankhistorische Forschung. Erster Gastprofessor war im Jahr 2015 Benjamin M.
