Prof. Dr. Enrico Schleiff (Pr\u00e4sident), Prof. Dr. Andrea Tommasi (Gastprofessorin), Prof. Dr. Joachim Curtius (Dekan FB Geowissenschaften\/Geographie (Foto: Peter Kiefer)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Jahr 2024 geht die Wilhelm-Heraeus-Stiftungsgastprofessur an die auf dem Gebiet der Geodynamik international renommierte und mehrfach ausgezeichnete Forscherin Prof. Dr. Andrea Tommasi vom Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) und der Universit\u00e4t Montpellier (Frankreich). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Dr. Tommasi konzentriert sich im Rahmen ihrer Forschung auf die Entschl\u00fcsselung der Deformation im Erdinneren und die Auswirkungen auf tektonische Prozesse der Erde. Sie verwendet dabei einen mehrgleisigen Ansatz, der die Untersuchung von Gesteinsmikrostrukturen in der Natur und im Labor in Verbindung mit geophysikalischen Beobachtungen und numerischer Modellierung umfasst. Auf diese Weise entwickelt sie erfolgreich Instrumente zur Modellierung der Verformung von Gesteinen auf allen Skalen und charakterisiert die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Verformung und der Migration von Magmen im Erdinnern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ihr Forschungsgeist und ihr internationales Ansehen lassen sich daran ablesen, dass sie 2016 f\u00fcr \u201ebahnbrechende Arbeiten zu Deformationsmechanismen und Mikrostrukturen im Erdinneren und deren Auswirkungen auf die Plattentektonik\u201c zum Fellow der American Geophysical Union gew\u00e4hlt und in 2020 mit der CNRS-Silbermedaille ausgezeichnet wurde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angesichts der Tatsache, dass es mehr als 50 Jahre nach der Etablierung der Plattentektonik als Paradigma in den Geowissenschaften immer noch nicht m\u00f6glich ist, vorherzusagen, wo und wie sich die Deformation lokalisieren wird, konzipierte Prof. Tommasi das Projekt \u201eRhEoVOLUTION\u201c. Finanziert wird dieses Projekt seit 2020 vom European Research Council (ERC) im Rahmen des \u00e4u\u00dferst kompetitiven und prestigetr\u00e4chtigen Advanced Grant-Programms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Nominierung von Prof. Dr. Tommasi war auch dadurch motiviert, dass sich aufgrund ihrer weitreichenden und transdisziplin\u00e4ren Expertise au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich viele M\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr eine fruchtbare Interaktion mit verschiedenen Gruppen am Institut f\u00fcr Geowissenschaften (IfG) ergeben. Diese umfassen die Nanogeowissenschaften, Petrologie und Geochemie der festen Erde, Geodynamik, Seismologie, mathematische Geophysik sowie physikalisch-chemische Mineralogie und Strukturgeologie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Mai 2024 wurde Prof. Dr. Tommasi im Rahmen der Akademischen Feier des Fachbereichs Geowissenschaften die Urkunde als 2024 Heraeus-Gastprofessorin von Prof. Dr. Enrico Schleiff, Pr\u00e4sident der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t, \u00fcberreicht. Im Anschluss daran begann ihre Gastprofessur mit einer ereignisreichen Woche bestehend aus einem spannenden Vortrag zu ihren Arbeiten im Institutskolloquium, einem Mini-Symposium und zahlreichen Einzelgespr\u00e4chen \u00fcber gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte mit Mitgliedern des IfG und der benachbarten Universit\u00e4ten in Mainz und Heidelberg. F\u00fcr den weiteren Verlauf der Gastprofessur sind neben der Entwicklung kollaborativer, interdisziplin\u00e4rer Projekte auch diverse Lehrveranstaltungen sowie gemeinschaftliche Exkursionen ins Gel\u00e4nde geplant, in denen die Dynamik der Erde anschaulich und eindr\u00fccklich vermittelbar wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><em>Autorin: Dr. Sonja Aulbach (Fachbereich 11,
