The 2022\/23 student survey shows that some 34% of them live with their parents or relatives \u2013 a slightly higher share than the national average (2021: 30% according to the 22nd Social Survey).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Variety of Living Arrangements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond living at home, student housing is spread relatively evenly across different arrangements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>23% live with one or more people, for example in a shared flat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>21% live alone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>16% live with a partner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around 5% live with a partner and child(ren) or as single parents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The largest proportion, however, live in their family environment \u2013 a circumstance likely linked to Frankfurt\u2019s tight housing market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Influencing Factors: Finances and Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey highlights clear differences between groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students who mainly receive BAf\u00f6G (state student grants) live independently of their families more often (78.7%) than those with little or no BAf\u00f6G support (around 64%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>84.4% of students with a personal migration background live in their own accommodation, while nearly half (48.5%) of students with a family migration background still live at home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These differences show the decisive role played by financial support and family circumstances in shaping living situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Initiatives for Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Given Frankfurt\u2019s shortage of affordable housing, the Frankfurt Student Services (Studierendenwerk) has launched the campaign \u201cThe Key to Success \u2013 Affordable Living!\u201d The aim is to encourage citizens to rent housing to students at fair rates. Offers and requests are available on the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wohnraum-gesucht.de\/\">wohnraum-gesucht.de<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional support services for students include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An overview of the public housing market provided by Goethe University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Housing search tips from the AStA Frankfurt (General Student Committee)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The AStA Bed Exchange for short-term accommodation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Goethe Welcome Center\u2019s roombase, specifically for international researchers and lecturers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey shows that for many students in Frankfurt, living at home is an obvious and often necessary choice. At the same time, differences between individual groups are striking.
