Mit 100 000 Euro f\u00f6rdert die Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung die Forschung von Prof. Sebastian Eckart vom Institut f\u00fcr Kernphysik der Goethe-Universit\u00e4t. Das gab die Stiftung jetzt bekannt. Eckart geh\u00f6rt zu den ersten f\u00fcnf Research Fellows, die von einer neuen F\u00f6rderlinie profitieren. Mit dieser unterst\u00fctzt die Stiftung herausragende Forschende im fr\u00fchen Karrierestadium, die das Potenzial haben, ihr Fachgebiet innerhalb der Physik entscheidend voranzubringen. Die Mittel k\u00f6nnen frei f\u00fcr Forschungsvorhaben verwendet werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In seiner Forschung besch\u00e4ftigt sich Prof. Sebastian Eckart mit Photoionisationsprozessen, bei der Elektronen aus Atomen oder Molek\u00fclen herausgel\u00f6st werden. Zur Photoionisation nutzt Eckart starke Laserfelder mit ma\u00dfgeschneiderten Eigenschaften. Die Laserpulse sind eine Million bis eine Milliarde Mal heller als das Sonnenlicht auf der Erde und dauern nur ein Millionstel einer Milliardstel Sekunde. Mit solchen Laserpulsen untersuchen sein Team und er Quantenph\u00e4nomene wie Tunnelprozesse, Interferenz und Verschr\u00e4nkung mit einzelnen Atomen und Molek\u00fclen auf ultrakurzen Zeitskalen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sebastian Eckart studierte Physik in Konstanz mit Auslandsaufenthalten in Italien und Oman. Nach einer Zeit als Postdoc am Institut f\u00fcr Kernphysik warb er 2022 einen ERC Starting Grant ein, der ihm die Etablierung einer Arbeitsgruppe erlaubte. 2023 erhielt er den Johanna Quandt Young Academy Science Award, und in demselben Jahr den Gustav-Hertz-Preis der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft. 2024 wurde er als Professor (mit Tenure Track) an die Goethe-Universit\u00e4t berufen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
