Every year on 14th March, mathematics enthusiasts celebrate Pi Day, dedicated to the circle constant \u03c0, which is used to calculate the circumference and area of a circle. The commemorative day was invented in the United States, where the date format 3\/14 recalls \u03c0 = 3.1415\u2026 Since 2020, UNESCO has also called for celebrations of the International Day of Mathematics on 14th March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Circles in a mathematical world unfamiliar to most people are studied by the theoretical mathematician Professor Annette Werner at Goethe University as part of the Collaborative Research Centre\/Transregio GAUS (a Rhine Main Universities\u2019 project). In the world of p-adic numbers, a circle can no longer be visualized in the usual way\u2014it has an infinite number of centers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research magazine Forschung Frankfurt reported on her investigations in the issue titled \u201cAlien Worlds\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
