Frankfurt Cancer Conference 2024: Targeting the tumor-host interface

Research oncologists, clinical oncologists and other scientists from all over the world met on the Westend Campus from August 28 to 30, 2024, for the third Frankfurt Cancer Conference. Their goal was to discuss the latest findings in translational cancer research. The main theme of the conference was “Targeting the tumor-host interface,” and the program comprised nine interdisciplinary presentation sessions and two poster sessions examining in detail the processes at the interface between tumors and the host environment. The top-level international speakers covered a broad spectrum of subjects ranging from the tumor microenvironment and tumor metabolism to targeted therapies and all the way to research into molecular agents. Almost 300 participants used the opportunity for discussion with around 40 speakers from Germany, Europe, the U.S. and Canada, including Scott Armstrong, Jay Bradner, Alessio Ciulli, Sarah-Maria Fendt, Marco Ruella and Marcel van den Brink, to find out about their research and engage in networking.

In addition, the international conference offered a stage for showcasing ongoing basic and clinical research activities at the University Cancer Center (UCT) Frankfurt, the Frankfurt/Mainz site of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), and the LOEWE center Frankfurt Cancer Institute (FCI), which had organized the event in cooperation with Goethe University. “We managed to present the huge range of cancer research conducted here in Frankfurt, and to create new links with the worldwide cancer research community, with which we have contacts through many projects. The key aspect for us was bringing together researchers from many different fields in order to promote dialog and prepare the ground for new collaborations. The special atmosphere on the main campus of Goethe University definitely also contributed to that,” was the conclusion drawn by Prof. Hubert Serve and Prof. Thomas Oellerich, the chairs of the Scientific Organizing Committee of this year’s Frankfurt Cancer Conference.
