Public Event at Westend Campus on July 3 Features Diverse Cultural, Sports, and Entertainment Program – Performance by Musician and DJ Shantel – Festivities to Mark 10-Year Anniversary of Rhine-Main Universities Alliance.

Five bands, a varied cultural program, sports, games, and children’s activities – from early afternoon until just before midnight on July 3, Goethe University’s annual summer festival offers countless opportunities for a light-hearted and entertaining summer day. Students, university staff, and all Frankfurt citizens who feel connected to Goethe University are warmly invited to Westend Campus. The invitation also extends to all students and staff from the universities of Mainz and Darmstadt – since this year’s festival will also mark the 10-year anniversary of the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU) alliance, which brings together Frankfurt, Mainz, and Darmstadt. The three universities will be celebrating the 7th annual RMU Day at a concurrent event held on site.
The stage program kicks off at 2:30 PM with the Ramatou Orchestra, an eight-member local act from Frankfurt. The musical lineup continues late into the evening, spanning danceable indie pop, intimate ballads, and Afro-inspired sounds, with performances by Sun’s Sons, Urbannino, and Kapa Tult. At 11:30 PM, internationally renowned musician and DJ Shantel will close the festival with his Bucovina Club Orchestra, blending pop culture with cosmopolitan sounds.
A colorful supporting program for all ages includes dance performances by groups like Afrotudedancers, Modern Dance in Female Style, and the K-pop cover group The Odd Project, founded in Frankfurt in 2022. Sports enthusiasts can try out a climbing wall, while puzzle fans can dive into an escape room adventure featuring three difficulty levels.
Art lovers will find plenty to explore on campus, including exhibitions in the painting and graphic arts studios in the Faculty of Language and Cultural Studies building. Campus art tours led by Dr. Carsten Siebert, the university’s former art curator, will introduce selected works displayed on Westend Campus. For those who enjoy live art, the students‘ Open Studios offer portrait drawings in the “Zeichenbox” – in color or black and white, solo or group portraits.
The university’s academic flying group Akaflieg will also be present with an aircraft on-site, sharing information about its programs for students, alumni, and aviation enthusiasts. Visitors can learn how the group engages in scientific activities in addition to offering summer schools, flight courses, cross-country flying, flight camps, and participation in competitions.
The 7th RMU Day also takes place on July 3 at Westend Campus. Under the theme “RMU – Knowledge for Tomorrow’s World,” participants will discuss the role of the Rhine-Main Universities in shaping future living environments and research. The 10-year RMU anniversary will be celebrated during the summer festival: starting at 3 PM, the alliance will host an Olympiad showcasing collaborative projects from the RMU member universities Frankfurt, Darmstadt, and Mainz. At 5 PM, the university presidents will deliver a joint welcome address on stage.
The full summer festival program (July 3, 2:30 PM – 11:30 PM) is available on Goethe University’s website.
