Intellivision: Videogame History and Platform Futures

8. Februar 2023, 18:00 bis 20:00

Prof. Tom Boellstorff (University of California, Irvine) spricht über
Intellivision: Videogame History and Platform Futures

Intellivision, developed by Mattel Electronics in the late 1970s and early 1980s, is one of the most important but understudied home videogame consoles. This talk presents some key findings from a forthcoming book on the Intellivision videogame system, coauthored with Braxton Soderman. Our analysis builds on a platform studies approach to explore Intellivision and its broader significance. From this perspective we explore Intellivision in terms of individual games, but also in terms of its computational infrastructure, aesthetics, marketing, and history. We also explore the social and organizational forces that shaped the platform as a commodity and technology.

Die Veranstaltung findet im Rahmen des Institutskolloquium “Wie Digital(ität) ethnografieren? Methoden für den Digitalen Alltag” des Instituts für Kulturanthropologie und Europäische Ethnologie statt.
