Open Science: Applications in Research and Industry
Donnerstag, 19. April 2018, 19:00 bis 22:00
Open science is the movement to make scientific research, data and publications publicly available. This new approach to scientific process has gained a lot of momentum in the past few years changing the way scientists conduct research. Open science promotes practices such as publishing research articles in open access journals, sharing data and making the details of data analysis accessible to everyone.
In this SIU-Frankfurt event, we invited two speakers who will talk about the concept and applications of Open Science within academic and industry settings.
Our speakers are:
– Dr. Axel Kohler | Deputy Managing Director for Natural and Life Science, GRADE
– Dr. Susanne Müller Knapp | Chief Operating Officer, Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) Frankfurt
Dr. Kohler will talk about the current reproducibility crisis and its causes and how Open Science practice might contribute to the solution of this problem and also foster the mutually beneficial exchange between science and society. Dr. Müller Knapp will talk about Structural Genomics Consortium as an application of Open Science in industry settings.
About SGC: SGC is a public-private partnership, engaged in biomedical research with laboratories at the universities of Oxford, Toronto, North Carolina, Campinas and Frankfurt. SGC is generating reagents and knowledge related to human proteins which will have maximal benefit if released to the public domain without restriction on use.
There will be a networking session & drinks reception after the event! As always, this event is free and everyone is welcome.
