SUMMARY:Bridging AI and brain: Exploring abstract knowledge
DESCRIPTION:Our brains have the exceptional capacity to learn concepts very quickly. But how do we know what a dog is and how do we distinguish it from a cat? In the last years\, Artificial Intelligence has been on the frontier of human performance. This brings the unique opportunity to bridge AI and brain science to understand the inner workings of the brain. The talk will be focused on how Artificial Intelligence informs the acquisition of human-like knowledge\, drawing inspiration from multisensory learning\, in which a sound and a visual object might refer to the same concept. For instance\, the sound of a barking dog is related to what we know about dogs\, and seeing the actual dog is also attached to the semantic concept of a dog. With AI models we can perform computational studies and explore how representations of concepts can emerge independently of the input modality in such models. In turn\, those novel AI models can be used to investigate the representation of concepts in the human brain. \n  \n15.
