Goethe Data Dive: 9,508 Students in Their First Study Semester

At the cutoff date, November 7, 2025, 9,508 students enrolled for their first study semester at Goethe University Frankfurt. After the initial phase of settling in, many are now beginning to actively explore the campus – and asking themselves: How can I get involved and help shape university life?

Student Commitment and Initiatives

Student participation plays a central role at Goethe University. In addition to self-government, numerous group projects and initiatives offer diverse opportunities to get involved – whether in university politics, cultural activities, social causes, or creative pursuits. Students play a decisive role in enriching campus life and fostering a sense of community.

One of the most visible aspects of this participation is the wide array of student initiatives. Currently, there are over 30 recognized groups covering a broad range of topics: sustainability, nature conservation, communication and media, culture, economics, social issues, sports, e-sports, music, art, coaching – and even student legal counseling. These groups are open to all students, organize regular events, and provide countless opportunities to meet new people and contribute your own ideas.

Recognized initiatives include:

180 Degrees Consulting Frankfurt e.V., Akademischer Arbeiterliederchor, AK Kritische Theorie, Amnesty International Hochschulgruppe, BDAS Frankfurt, Campusradio Dauerwelle & UTV, Debattierclub Goethes Faust e.V., DemokraTeaTime Frankfurt e.V., Deutsch-Französische Initiative, ELSA-Frankfurt e.V., Enactus Frankfurt, Feminist Law Clinic, Founders Club Frankfurt, Goethe Goes Green, Jüdische Hochschulgruppe Frankfurt, Kritische Ökonomik, Law&Legal student legal counseling e.V., Legal Tech Lab Frankfurt, MainMUN, Nightline Frankfurt, Rock your Life!, Chess and Quiz Meetup, Students For Liberty Frankfurt, Studying Without Borders, TechAcademy e.V., Vegan Student Group, Viva con Agua Frankfurt – and many more.

You can find an overview of all groups as well as information on founding your own initiative at: Student Participation. For questions about the recognition process, contact engagement@uni-frankfurt.de.

Faculty Student Bodies: Advocates and Support Networks During Your Course

Faculty student bodies play an important role in fostering a sense of community among students. As institutions of student self-government, they represent the interests of students within their faculty, offer guidance and opportunities for dialogue, and actively contribute to shaping university life. Each faculty student body is open to all students within its respective faculty and is often organized into groups closely connected to the institution in question. Goethe University has faculty student bodies across all disciplines – from law and economics to social sciences, cultural studies, natural sciences, medicine, theology, and computer science/mathematics. You can find an overview with contact information at: Faculty student bodies.
