Hölderlin Vorträge: The Logomachics of Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty: The Theatre and its Double in the Light of Artaud’s Mexican Writings
Tuesday, 21. January 2025, 18:00 bis 20:00
Up until recently some of the most explicitly political and philosophical writings of Antonin Artaud have been hidden in an untranslated retranscription of his 1936 book Revolutionary Messages. Published for the first time in September 2024 it permits us to reassess not only his theatrical work through the lens of his explicit engagement with figures such as Hegel, Bergson and Marx, but it offers the material Double to the spiritual and aesthetic endeavour of the Theatre of Cruelty.
Joel White is a lecturer at University of Dundee and Staffordshire University. He is executive editor of Technophany, Journal of Philosophy and Technology, a postdoc researcher on the ENERGY: A Philosophy of Practice project at Dundee University and translator of the French avant-garde.
