The new building on the Westend Campus will house the Faculty of Linguistics, Culture and Arts, the last of the social science and humanistic disciplines yet to be relocated from the Bockenheim Campus. Together, Hessens Minister for Education, Culture and the Arts Boris Rhein, State Secretary for Finances Dr. Martin J. Worms, University President Professor Birgitta Wolff and the Director of the State Operations for Building and Property Thomas Platte turned the first sod for the construction project on the northeastern edge of the West Campus. The total construction costs for the project amount to approximately 102m euro.
In addition to the Faculty of Linguistics, Culture and the Arts, a library, several central administration departments, a cafeteria, a 700-person lecture hall, and a parking garage will all find room in the building, which has a usable area of 20,216 square metres. The construction is being financed through the HEUREKA- University Investment Programme and the joint Federal and State “2020 University Pact Investment Programme.” The building’s planned completion date is August 2021, and the relocation should take place at the end of 2021.
