Am kommenden Dienstag, 5. Juni, 19 Uhr, Campus Westend, Casino-Gebäude, Raum Cas. 1.811, hält Julia Bryan-Wilson, Professorin für Moderne und Zeitgenössische Kunst an der University of California, Berkeley und Direktorin des dortigen Arts Research Center, einen Vortrag zum Thema “Material Relations”.
Zum Vortrag: What accountabilities do materials demand or suggest? How can an artist’s – and an audience’s – tactile engagements with cloth, or wood, or clay, create alternative histories? Reflecting primarily upon the work of artist Rebecca Belmore, this talk examines how Belmore’s use of marble speaks back to ideological formations around the classical past.
Julia Bryan-Wilson unterrichtet im SoSe 2018 als Gastprofessorin am Kunstgeschichtlichen Institut und im Masterstudiengang Curatorial Studies der Goethe-Universität. Sie ist Autorin zahlreicher Publikationen: Art Workers. Radical Practice in the Vietnam War Era (University of California Press, 2009), Art in the Making: Artists and Their Materials from the Studio to Crowdsourcing (with Glenn Adamson, Thames & Hudson, 2016) und Fray: Art and Textile Politics (University of Chicago Press, 2017, das von der New York Times als bestes Kunstbuch des Jahres genannt wurde).
