Yuli Ketain Meiri normally conducts her master’s studies in social work at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. This summer semester, however, she has temporarily relocated to Goethe University Frankfurt’s Faculty of Educational Sciences, where she is researching the experiences and perceptions of children growing up in LGBTQ families under the supervision of Professor Sabine Andresen.
Making it all possible is a four-month scholarship, awarded by the Goethe Research Experience Programme (GREP) to particularly qualified international undergraduate and master students. Goethe University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff welcomed Yuli Ketain Meiri as the program’s first scholarship recipient, saying, „Supporting talented young researchers is not the only aim of the Goethe Research Experience Programme. We also want to attract ambassadors for Goethe University worldwide.” The program helps to further develop and consolidate international research cooperation with top-class universities – such as, in this case, the partnership with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Schleiff continued.
Coordinated by the Global Office of Goethe University’s Global Affairs Study and Teaching department, the program was developed in close alignment with the university’s Cluster of Excellence initiatives – part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments – and key projects within the research profile areas. As such, within the framework of the newly founded Frankfurt-Tel Aviv Center for Interreligious Studies, students enrolled in the respective master’s programs in religious studies will soon be able to complete research stays at both Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Goethe University. TAU’s Sagol School of Neuroscience and Goethe University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience Frankfurt (ICNF) are also working to open up to TAU master’s students the mandatory laboratory internship in Goethe University’s M.Sc. „Interdisciplinary Neuroscience“. The Global Office is currently planning additional GREP collaborations with top universities worldwide.
Goethe Research Experience Scholarships
Aimed at outstanding international undergraduate and master students, the scholarships are designed for a research stay of two to six months at Goethe University, during which recipients can either work on their thesis or dissertation or, in selected master programs in the natural sciences, complete a laboratory internship. Working closely together with researchers in interdisciplinary research groups, the students are able to expand their scientific and cultural competencies.
Scholarship holders receive a service package that includes accommodation and free access to university facilities. They also have the option of joining a German language course at Goethe-Institut Frankfurt and join an exclusive social program.
The Goethe Research Experience Scholarships are awarded twice a year:
> In mid-May for a research stay in the winter semester (October-March).
> In mid-October for a research stay in the summer semester (April-September).
The scholarships are financed by the Adickes Endowment Fund and the Johanna Quandt Jubilee Fund.
