The number of people in Germany with significant hearing loss is estimated at between five and eleven million. Tests of hearing ability are therefore particularly important, but they are labor-intensive. A so-called hearing AI is now set to provide relief for hearing aid acousticians. The tool is intended to generate so-called speech audiograms, which provide precise information about hearing ability – words are played to a person at normal speaking volume and must then be repeated. The hearing AI is currently being developed by Goethe University Frankfurt together with Acousticon Hörsysteme GmbH in Reinheim. The project “Development and Evaluation of Digital Automated Hearing Diagnostics with Interactive AI-Based Response Recognition” is being funded by the Hessian Ministry for Digitalization and Innovation with around 500,000 euros over a period of three years.
