On February 16, 2025, Goethe University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff and Prof. Mouna Maroun, Rector of the University of Haifa, signed a memorandum of understanding for a mutual student exchange. This is the first formal agreement between the two universities and initially will run until 2030, when it will be up for renewal.

Goethe University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff and Haifa University Rector Prof. Mouna Maroun signed into force the first student exchange between the two universities.

Also present at the signing ceremony, held on Haifa University’s Mount Carmel Campus, were Prof. Tally Katz-Gerro, Vice President Global Engagement, Prof. Tal Zarsky, Dean of Haifa’s Faculty of Law, and Tsameret Einav, Managing Director of Haifa University’s division for Global Engagement.

Commenting on the agreement, Prof. Schleiff said: “I am pleased to be here in this wonderful city and on this amazing campus today to sign into force this cooperation agreement. It is important to me to be here personally in these challenging times to lay this cornerstone in our partnership, which I am confident will extend into other fields in the future, too. I am very happy that Haifa University has now been added to the list of our official university partners in Israel.”

Under the terms of the agreement, undergraduate students of each partner university will be able to enroll in courses, obtain academic credit and participate in the student life of the respective other institution as exchange students. To that end, each semester, one Goethe University undergraduate student will join the exchange with Haifa, which may in turn send one undergraduate student to Frankfurt. Provided both partners agree, exchange students also have the option of applying for a stay of two semesters or more, with the balance between the two institutions subject to constant review. All academic credit earned at either university will be transferred to the exchange students’ respective home institution. While students need to provide for their own health insurance and independently cover the expenses of their stay, they will not be charged tuition fees by their host institution. Detailed conditions and the relevant prerequisites for students to apply for a nomination by their own university will shortly be published on the websites of Goethe University Frankfurt and Haifa University.

Goethe University students interested in joining the exchange may contact outgoing@uni-frankfurt.de for further information.
