The Rhine-Main Universities are expanding their joint academic offerings: Starting in the summer semester of 2026, two new master’s programs will be introduced, combining the expertise of the three campuses and offering students in Germany unique qualification profiles.
Trilateral Master’s Program in „Particle Accelerator Science“
With the new English-language master’s program „Particle Accelerator Science,“ Goethe University Frankfurt, TU Darmstadt, and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz are pooling their Europe-wide unique expertise in accelerator science. For the first time, students will have access to a joint, internationally-oriented academic program across three campuses, covering the full spectrum of this key technology—from fundamental research to diverse applications in medicine, materials science, and climate research. The closely integrated exchange between research, instruction, and large-scale infrastructure creates a qualification profile that is unparalleled in Germany. Graduates of the program will earn a triple degree from the three universities. Applications are now open.
Joint Master’s Program in „Urban Studies“
Also launching in the summer semester of 2026 is the joint German-language master’s program „Urban Studies,“ offered by Goethe University Frankfurt and TU Darmstadt. This program is designed for bachelor’s graduates in social sciences, history, human geography, and architecture, providing a unique social science perspective on cities within Germany. The program prepares students for a growing professional field that addresses the complex challenges cities face—ranging from urban management and citizen participation to neighborhood development and advisory urban planning. Applications are open until March 1, 2026.
