Award Ceremony and Literary Program to be held December 9 at Goethe University’s Guest House
This year’s Cornelia Goethe Salon takes place on December 9, 2025, which also marks the 275th birthday of Cornelia Goethe, Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s sister. To honor the anniversary, Dr. Ruth Fühner will read from Cornelia Goethe’s letters. In addition, the Cornelia Goethe Prize will also be awarded that evening. The prize recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of women’s and gender studies and is awarded by the Friends of the Cornelia Goethe Center for Gender Studies (CGC).
This year’s prize goes to Dr. Sophie Bauer for her dissertation “‘The Most Natural Thing a Woman Can Have’ – A Sociology of Menstruation.” Sophie Bauer was a doctoral fellow at the Hans Böckler Foundation from 2020 to 2023 and is a member of the GRADE Center Gender. Having submitted her dissertation to Goethe University’s Sociology department, it was published as a book by Campus Verlag in July 2025. Since October 2023, Sophie Bauer has been a research associate in the “Biotechnology, Nature, and Society” research group led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Lemke at the department of Sociology. She is also a member of PRiNA, an interdisciplinary early-career research group focusing on “Politics of Reproduction.” The laudation will be delivered by Dr. Tamara Schwertel from the University of Cologne. The evening’s musical program will feature Martha Jordan (mezzo-soprano) and Lisa Ochsendorf (piano), performing songs by Josefine Lang and Luise Greger. The program will conclude with a reception.
A participation fee of €15 will be charged at the door. Students pay €10. The program begins at 6:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:00 PM. Please register in advance by emailing CGCentrum@soz.uni-frankfurt.de.
