The Executive Board of Goethe University has decided to close the university from December 20, 2025, to January 11, 2026, subject to special regulations. During this period, all Goethe University buildings will be closed and the regulation will apply to all areas, with a few exceptions. By closing the building, the university aims to significantly reduce its electricity and heating consumption, thereby saving CO2 and money.
Information for students
Examination offices and student administration
- The Student Secretariat, Service Point, and Hotline will be closed from December 22, 2025, through January 11, 2026. From January 5, 2026, the Student Secretariat can be reached by email (sli@uni-frankfurt.de), and from January 12, 2026, by phone and in person again.
- During the closure period, the examination offices will only be able to offer limited services or will be closed. Please note: Deadlines during the closure period must still be met! If you have any questions or problems, please contact your responsible examination office as early as possible.
Extension of Deadlines for Term Papers and Final Theses
Due to the extended university closure over the turn of the year 2025/26, you can apply for an extension of the deadline for your term paper or final thesis. A temporary change to the General Regulations allows the Examination Committee to grant an extension if your submission period is affected by the closure period. If you would like to request an extension, please contact your Dean’s Office or the Examinations Office.
Special case for Faculty 16 (Medicine)
Please note that at Faculty 16, the closure period ends earlier, on January 2, 2026.
Closing times facilities
Library closing times
- The J.C. Senckenberg University Library (UB JCS) will close at all locations at 8 p.m. at the latest on December 19, 2025, and will reopen on January 12, 2026.
- The Central Library and the Main Medical Library (MedHB) will reopen regularly on January 5, 2026.
- All other UB JCS locations (BNat, BRuW, BSP, BSKW, BzG) will be available as usual from January 12, 2026.
Closing times of other facilities
- The Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main is responsible for the cafeterias and their opening hours. All opening hours for the turn of the year can be found on their websites.
- All HRZ service facilities at all locations will be closed from December 20, 2025, through January 11, 2026.
- Further information on other services and advisory services in the buildings can be found on the respective websites.
Goethe University employees are subject to working time regulations during this period, which can be found on the intranet.
