New Look, Enhanced Usability: Introducing Goethe University’s Redesigned Website

Goethe University Frankfurt has launched its newly redesigned central website, placing a strong focus on user-friendliness, performance, and a clear information architecture. Over recent months, content for prospective students, current students, researchers, external partners, and all those interested in the university has been restructured to be more service-oriented and tailored to specific audiences. Information is now easier to find and accessible with just a few clicks.

One key feature for prospective students is the new course finder, which allows users to filter programs by subject area, degree type, language of instruction, or program start date. This tool provides a quick and personalized overview of available study programs and is fully integrated into Goethe University’s homepage.

In the first phase of the relaunch, around 1,000 new webpages went live in both German and English. Ensuring consistent multilingual accessibility has been a central goal of this project. Additional content and features will be introduced gradually in the coming weeks and months. By early 2026, the first faculties, the University Library, and the University Computing Center will also launch their redesigned websites. Until then, content not yet migrated will remain available in its “old look.”

“The relaunch of our central pages marks an important step toward the future – our university now presents itself with a contemporary digital presence,” says Goethe University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff. “The website serves as a digital showcase for our diverse range of study, research, and transfer activities. It’s designed for everyone interested in our work, as well as for our students and staff. We have transformed numerous individual pages into a clear, user-focused platform that better conveys Goethe University’s identity and profile. The new website improves access to our offerings, fosters engagement and networking with all stakeholders, and reflects our openness to innovation. On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I would like to thank everyone involved, especially the project team, for their dedication and outstanding work over the past months.”

“With the relaunch, we have created a modern, secure, and future-ready technical foundation for our external communications,” adds Ulrich Schielein, Goethe University’s Chief Information Officer and member of the Executive Board. “The new web architecture not only enhances performance and accessibility but also enables flexible development. From now on, we are working with a robust technical base that allows us to roll out new features quickly, operate them securely, and scale efficiently in the long term – from new self-service tools to seamless system integrations such as application portals, campus management, and digital learning environments.”

What’s Next for the Relaunch?

Beginning in early 2026, further web content will be migrated in stages, accompanied by new functionalities.

In the first quarter of 2026, the initial pilot faculties, along with the University Library and the University Computing Center, will start revising and moving their pages to the new design.

Planned enhancements include an updated news and events section that will integrate the current offerings hosted at aktuelles.uni-frankfurt.de/en, a significantly improved search function, and new links to other university applications.
